Our organization is a 501c3 whose mission is dedicated to empowering children and youth as valued family and community members through intergenerational shared-reading experiences. We place high priority on the goal of reaching out to children and youth who are at-risk of having a solid educational foundation for success in school and life.
We base the importance of our work on the power of the shared-reading experience as being educationally and emotionally beneficial to both the listener and the reader. We place high priority on the following core values:
Our strategy is to surround children and youth with supportive family members and exemplary community role models who will regularly participate in this shared-reading experience with them. To that end, we have established two programs reaching into areas where at-risk children, youth, and families can be positively impacted with our curriculum and processes.
Our resources are utilized almost exclusively on our programs, with only 15% on administrative and/or fund development activities. Management of a large team of trained and motivated volunteers requires staff attention and interaction. To that end, we have developed a Training Curriculum with regular site visits and support.
